LA Legislature Tightens Rules on Uninsured Vehicles

The Louisiana Legislature recently passed HB 635, which changed the number of days a vehicle can be uninsured before the owner will have a fine and flag on his/her license from the Office of Motor Vehicles.  Previously an individual had ten days to either acquire insurance coverage, or turn in the license plate or a Non-Use Affidavit to the OMV, before incurring a fine and a flag.  Effective August 15, 2011, if a vehicle is uninsured for ONE day, a flag and fine of $50 PER VEHICLE will be imposed.
